TUTORIAL - Insert template in Microsoft WORKS

Following the tutorial for the insert template in Word I've received requests for one in Microsoft Works. It's not a program I've ever used and assumed that the tutorial for Word could be adapted for Works. However, having received a request I thought that it would test my assumption to use the Word instructions to build a template in Works, charting the process and recording any differences as I found them so it would serve a dual purpose. As mentioned, I have never used Works before but found that the Word instructions did work once the equivilent tool was found. There are a few subtle differences but the basics are very much the same.

I built this tutorial in Microsoft Works Version 9.0 - Works Word Processor ... the only version I have access to .... any queries please either drop me an email or leave your question in the comments. The insert is sized for an A6 card (A5 folded in half). For different sizes change all the measurements used at each stage for the appropriate value.

Text is part of the image. Click on any image for a larger view.

That's your template made and ready for you to add pictures, clipart or wording of your choice in the normal way of Works and its table/template use. If you have any queries regarding use of the table/template there is comprehensive Help within Works. Click on Help from the Toobar, then Works Help. From the Contents menu select Create and Customise Tables and most queries you may have will be covered there. I will not be able to assist with adding content to the template as I've not tried to so I have no experience of using it in Works. I would assume that it very similar to Word ....

Enjoy!!

Rotten weather ...

... not quite thunder and lightening but definitely very breezy and heavy showers so, guess what's been cancelled today! Yep, balloon flight booking #19 so #20 has been booked. This time, change of tack and it's gonna be a morning one ... or not! *LOL* Just to rub it in my health & beauty therapist (yep, I know, far too late but what the heck!) told me she felt really lucky that hers went. When? 19th August 2009. How many times did she have to book? ONCE!! Yep, she booked and flew first time of trying ...... *gggrrrrrrrr*

Just heard from eldest grandson who had his driving test this morning and that wasn't successful either. Seems it was the examiner not being clear enough with instruction as he was failed for being in the wrong lane on a roundabout. He was told to take one exit and then, while on roundabout instruction was changed to a different one and he was failed for it! Reckon he's got a good case for appeal, especially as it wasn't marked down at the time but put on sheet at end of test and after he'd been told he'd failed. The lad reckons she wanted to fail him from the minute they got in car and had to have a 'back up' failure reason if no other showed itself .... He's not a happy bunny and can't say as I blame him!

I've had another couple of bad nights - just when I thought I'd settled that problem and was back on track with my sleeping. Oh well, seems I was wrong on that score but at least I've had a good spell of reasonable sleep.

Weekend's been ...

... and gone but where too? Don't seem to have stopped but guess I have somewhere over the past few days.

Dad's trip to the chiropodist turned into a circular tour due to road resurfacing on the coast road. When I saw the queue of traffic that had built up in the direction that we would have taken to get him back home I decided it would be better, even if not quicker, to take a detour through the countryside for the return trip. At least we would be moving rather than being stuck in a traffic queue for however long. Not sure he knew where we were most of the time but he enjoyed the trip and asked if we could 'do something like it again' at some point. As that was partly the point of him moving - so I could do things with him more - I don't have a problem with that at all and now that he's really starting to settle in with a routine forming we can all work round it.

Took a photo of the Palace Pier on way home (Dad lives just a couple of streets away from it now). Not sure it's that good a picture so may need to try again at some point. It's actually a photo of both piers with a view through to Worthing but it looks as though the ruin of the West Pier is attached to the Palace Pier ... sorry, Brighton Pier (it'll always be the Palace Pier to Brightonians).

Saturday and Sunday have really been proper 'family time' as I've spent a lot of it with the littlies celebrating tiniest littlie's 1st birthday and part of it with eldest son and his girlfriend.

Couldn't resist taking a piccie of our eldest grandchild (18 next month) with the youngest (just 1!) when eldest took youngest to play in the sand. Didn't realise quite how well this one had come out as it was taken from some distance .... I love it! Very little and large - *LOL*

Lovely weekend and all pretty ordinary which, considering the past 18 months or so, is good in my book! Just need to get the hip/leg problem more manageable - although that seems to be happening so perhaps it is going to get better. Pity I can't do anything more to help the breathing but guess you can't have everything - *LOL*

He got there ...

... this week - to the Day Centre. They remembered to pick him up but I think he was more disappointed than I realised about missing the 'pub crawl' last week. He says that this week wasn't as good, although he did nothing different from his taster week and he still had plenty to tell me. Main problem seemed to be that everybody chatted together and I think he felt a little left out of that. Told him that once he's been a few times he will start to get to know people and he'll be joining in. We've got to get him going a good few times I think and then he'll be OK.

Carers are noting that he seems really happy now. They haven't noted that in his care records before and Dad tells me that it's feeling more like home so it looks as though the corner's been turned and he is, finally, really settling in. I'm taking him out on a little trip tomorrow ... to the chiropodist! It will be a little trip for him as it's a longer journey from where he is now and it's all along the coast road so he'll have plenty to look at on the way there and back. He hasn't been since he moved for one reason or another and he needs to get back on track with that treatment.

Oh yes ... to any TV Licensing people out there! A month before Dad moved I went round the Utilities notifying the up and coming change of address, including changing address on his TV License - or so I thought, until today. I'd had to ring them 3 times back in April because we were given one postcode by the flat's Estate Manager, then another, then back to the original and I had to keep changing it with them. Every time the woman I spoke to repeated the full address back to me and, if not repeated correctly I gave it again until it was. I had verbal confirmation that the address had been changed and everything was fine. Today Dad had a letter from them - or technically 'The current occupier' - advising that the address was showing as unlicensed. Hmmmm, not according to my records it wasn't!

Rang them when I got home and it was confirmed that there was no license registered to his address and they wouldn't take another change of address from me without his authority. Their mistake but they weren't prepared to correct it! Decided, because I couldn't get any sense out of them that I'd go online to change the address except - I couldn't! It didn't recognise the info on his license. Alarm bells ... had they cancelled his license when the new occupants of his old address had their license changed? Rang them back. This time the young lady I spoke to confirmed his address had been changed but the flat number wasn't his. She still wouldn't do anything about correcting their mistake saying that I'd need to write with his authority and the old postcode. Ummm, I'd no idea what address the license was registered to now as it wasn't his new one and it wasn't his old one!

Then a light went on! Young lady just given a clue - address changed but not correct flat number. Back online to change of address page and try new postcode and every blooming flat number (all 75 of 'em except Dad's) if need be. Had License number, name and postcode and Bingo - found it ... registered to Flat 60 but now changed to right flat! Couldn't get 'em to do the change 'face to face' because of Data Protection but I could do it totally anonymously online! Makes great sense, don't yer think?????

I'm a naughty ...

... Nana! It's youngest grandson's first birthday today. I visited and forgot my camera! Would you believe it? Something that has started to become a permanent appendage and I forgot it on such an important day - *sob!* Told Mummy & Daddy I wanted some birthday photo's when they download some but, as I'm still waiting for copies of photo's I asked for months ago I ain't gonna be holding me breath, although I've enlisted the help of littlie grand-daughters and asked them to remind Mummy & Daddy that Nana Pam wants some birthday photos - *LOL* It's a date to record as it's 09.09.09 and won't be seen again for another 100 years so, in none of our lifetimes with, perhaps, the exception of Zac if he's lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) enough to live to see his 101st birthday. Happy birthday littlie man ....

Spent the morning putting together a nice new desk so now we have a lovely new shelving unit and a new desk. All that remains to be done to finish the study is to sort through everything and find proper homes for what is being kept and to get rid of what isn't! I'm so close now to getting that room finished and it's a rung closer to getting to do my craft room. Got to sort everything else out first ... think they call it prioritising (*lol*) but - I would really rather my craft room was at the top of the list!

Well, I was ...

... really hopeful today! I was really thinking that the next entry on this blog would be 100's of photos taken from the balloon. The weather is gorgeous, with barely a breath of wind but .... there's enough when it gusts so flight booking #18 has moved to #19! Apparently, although it looks and feels ideal on the face of it (and this morning's flight happened) the breeze is gusting to 28mph at, or near, the take-off site (so they tell me) so it's not happening. To say I'm disappointed this time is an understatement! I'm now beginning to wonder whether I am actually ever going to get this flight. I know I believe in fate but it's getting beyond a joke now! Perhaps fate is telling me to give up the idea of a balloon flight. The end of the flying season is fast approaching ....

Wind? What wind? ...

On a happier note. Hubby and I had a BBQ to go to on Sunday - with his shooting buddies. It was held at the Hare and Hounds, Framfield - not far from the balloon take off site. It was totally different to the normal BBQ's as it was mainly traditional Morrocan food. Lemon chicken tagine, spicy lamb sausages, Morrocan lamb kebabs with peppers, meatballs cooked in tomato sauce with eggs broken on top. Various salads, all with a Morrocan twist and everything extremely delish!! To cover all palates there was also salmon trout and homemade game pie. I'm looking forward to the next one! Bramble was ever hopeful, even before the table was filled .....

... and here is Lolli, now called Dolly, who has filled out somewhat since she's been with her new owner - or is that because she's maturing in age, if not in actions - *LOL*

Busy week ...

... this week and already behind with what's been happening. No time to catch up just yet either but hoping the weather stays as glorious as it is right now! If it does ..... *big grin*

The Long Man of ...

... Wilmington has got a face!! Well, he had one a couple of weeks ago - *lol*! Eldest son and his family and entourage took a picnic out and decided to climb the Long Man - an ancient chalk figure on the Downs north-east of Brighton between Eastbourne and Lewes. Having climbed it myself (in the distant past when sons were nowt but children themselves) I know what a task it is and not one I could do now, even if I wanted to - *LOL* It is an extremely steep hill and very, very high! The children decided it would be fun to give him a face and, as they reached the relevant area while parents were still climbing they formed the features and parents took photo with kids shouting to hurry up 'cos they couldn't hold on much longer. I only got a copy of the photo yesterday and thought it good enough to share ....

Cast of features: -
Chloe: Mouth (appropriate - *LOL*!)
Kieran: Nose
Ben: Long Man's right eye
Abbie: Long Man's left eye
(Ben & Abbie are eldest's girlfriend's youngest children aged 11 & 8)

Chloe was hanging onto to tuft of grass to hold herself in position, with legs splayed to try to stop herself from rolling down the hill. Kieran was on his back, knees up to form nose and able to dig heels in to stop himself sliding while Ben and Abbie only had to crouch so were able to keep balance. Good effect overall though, I reckon!

For more info about the Long Man take a look here.

So disappointed ...

... for him! Dad, that is. Called to see him yesterday to see how he enjoyed his 'pub crawl' on Wednesday and he never went! Why didn't he go? 'Cos they never arrived to collect him - *doh*! He'd got himself ready and sat waiting, all to no avail and he'd really been looking forward to it as well. I rang those concerned when I got home and it seems somebody hadn't put his name on the list for pick up, as they should have done, last week. He's now on the list but he's missed the "pub crawl". They only do it every other month or so and not always the same day so that those that go different days have a chance of going. They did say, because he'd missed this one, they would try and put him on the next but ... they'll probably forget by the time that one comes around! I'm a bit concerned now as to how keen he'll be on going again as it took some persuading to get him to go in the first place. Just hope he enjoyed it enough that he will give them another chance but I told him to be ready again next Wednesday...

The really concerning thing though ... he could have missed out on his lunchtime visit from his carers as they thought he was out. It was only one of them passing his door and hearing his TV on that alerted them to the fact he may still be in, that he got the visit.

I'm busy sorting 'study' - building desks and storage and sorting, sorting, sorting! Daylight is starting to arrive though, so that's a good thing - *LOL*! At least I'm managing to do a bit, even if very little and often - until everything tells me that I've got to rest up!

Just for fun ...

... but animal lovers/owners past and present will identify with the following - *LOL!*. It's one of those things that gets passed round in cyberspace via email and it landed in my inbox a couple of days ago. How I relate to this, although our last, personal, live-in pet (as opposed to a 'shared' one) went to Rainbow Bridge back in September 2005. I couldn't help but have a giggle ...

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE PETS, THIS IS A TRUE STORY. FOR THOSE THAT DON'T, IT IS A TRUE STORY.

The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.

Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object.. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however.. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:

(1) They live here. You don't.
(2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture.
(3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
(4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Exciting morning ...

... this morning - not! Decided to take a trip to supermarket as not much needed by way of grocery shop. All went well, trolley filled within ½ hour and, just as I arrived at checkout the fire alarm went off. Oh what fun - evacuate store, leaving shopping behind and wait for Fire & Rescue to arrive. Think there must have been a lot of abandoned trolleys to be recovered by the time we were allowed back as there were plenty of people got into their cars and left. I may have done the same if it wasn't for the fact that I'd finished shopping and only needed to go through checkout. ½ hour after alarm had sounded we were all allowed back into store - false alarm! The walking around, let alone the added waiting time, didn't do much for my hip and plans for the afternoon have been shelved but at least I've managed a real shop as opposed to a 'virtual' one - *LOL*

Booking #17 ...

... cancelled! Mind you, I'd have been really worried if it hadn't been - *LOL*. It's blowing a gale out there - and the odd heavy shower. Odd, because we've only had 2 lasting about 5 minutes each but they were very heavy. Other than that the weather has been quite nice today, sunny and warm even if windy! Oh well, will just have to go meet up with friends for a meal tonight instead - *LOL* (which was the original 'date' on my calendar but I'm getting desperate for this flight).

Ordered furniture (desk and more storage) for the study today so hopefully I can get that sorted within the next week. Depends how long it takes to put together when received and have plans for the weekend .... and no, it's not booking #18! That's next week ....

FREEBIE - Underhill Lane, Hoar-frost 2009

Well, it's getting to that time of year when thoughts turn to ... CHRISTMAS! (Shock, horror, where's the summer gone?) I'm very Bah-Humbug about Christmas but seem to be drawn to anything crafty relating to it. I buy a lot but never use it and, I hate to admit this ..... I generally buy my Christmas cards (sssshhhhh!!) I do try to make a few and sometimes I'm forced to (*grin*) but I mainly like to add 'stuff' to my craft collection - *LOL* Anyways, I've been playing again and I love this photo I took in February on one of my journeys to a Glitterpot workshop and I think it lends itself perfectly to a Christmas card. As ever ...
